Holy smokes! So, this is the beginning…the first post on my first blog for a new business! It’s been a long time coming and a lot of work but at least there were cocktails along the way! So to keep it short-n-sweet, a toast to the Goat and all things new in 2015. What better way to cheers to smooth sailing than smashing a bottle of bubbly on the stern of a new boat…”Spaulding get your foot off the boat!”. Maybe actually getting to drink some without glass shards.
So for my very first post I wanted to toast Miss Mabel, the traveling bar, with some very fitting sparkling wine made to match her glowing exterior of cream and pistachio. The inspiration came from working with the amazing craftsman, artist, and insane humans Paul + Kim Fuelling at Mabel Studios in Boone, NC…our only disagreement seemed to be picking the right exterior paint color. Once we agreed on the vintage Bronco colors it seemed that getting the trailer restored was a breeze…at least for me as an onlooker. Seeing how I just pruned my kiwi vines back for next seasons harvest I took the leftovers to blend up with a bit of lime juice and Tasmanian honey. I then froze the mixture while every so often scraping it to create a granita like ice….a big heaping spoonful in the bottom of a glass topped with a nice Cava, Prosecco or Champagne and you have this beautiful creamy green sipper with golden bubbles. Make a big batch of the granita and you can use it on anything, mold it into popsciles or just eat it right out of the bowl!
That’s it, the first post on my first blog for a new business! I am definitely excited to have a place to keep and share all my recipes and drinks through travel and work.
“Bless this ship and all who sail on her” and “Bless this bar and all who drink at her”
